A Guide On Ways To Undertake Successful Flood Restoration On Your Cell Phone

When you hear the phrase flood restoration it is likely that you think of the process of removing water from a property following flooding. Yet the phrase can also be used in the context of trying to remove excess water from a phone after it has gotten wet. Mobile phones that are subjected to water can be flooded just like properties are, with the flood restoration being aimed at getting the phone working again. Below are five tips that should be tried when trying to restore a mobile phone following flooding.

Eject the battery

Your first step should always be to remove the battery from the phone. Trying to turn the phone on can be a mistake as the presence of a charge could cause damage to the circuit board if it is wet. If you do damage the circuit board then you have pretty much ruined your phone as they often cost almost as much to replace as buying a new phone would.

Let the components air dry

You should now give the phone components some time to naturally air-dry. This can be done by removing items such as the SIM cards, memory cards, case and fascias. Placing the phone and all of its bits in a warm dry place will speed up the drying process, with airing cupboards and boiler rooms being a good idea. Alternatively you can place the phone near a radiator, but never too close as overheating could cause damage to the phone.

Air spray

The flood restoration process is made difficult by the fact that; unless we start removing screws and taking the phone apart, we can’t get to all of the water. This problem can be solved by using some pressurised air to spray between and small gaps or cracks, which should force excess water out of the phone. You also have the option of using a hairdryer on a low heat setting at this point, which will create an airflow through the phone.

Using a bag of rice

If the phone still isn’t working then it is time to try a less conventional method. Open up a bag of rice and place your phone in the centre of it, before sealing back up and leaving for a couple of days. This can frequently work, with the rice drawing out and soaking up any water that remains in your phone.

Stay patient

You must always try to remain patient when undertaking flood restoration on your phone. You will almost always be able to get your phone to work eventually, but sometimes it can take weeks before it will work again. Therfore it is wise to borrow a phone from a friend or family member, or perhaps buy a budget model to put you on.
