A phone recorder helped me to save the friendships that really mattered. During my senior year of school I worked with three girls from Brazil. We were fundamentally inseparable. We worked at a tanning salon. The chief became very upset with all four of us one day because he had some really dear telephone calls on the bill, of course made to Brazil. So he got a phone recorder on the line.

I told him that I would have nobody to call in Brazil. Being from Ohio I was off the hook, but my chums also denied doing it. I told them that this was equivalent to swiping and that was an awful thing to do to someone who is trying to run a business. All three girls still denied doing it. The odd thing was that we customarily worked together so one of us would be well placed to tell if the other were on the phone.

He decided to get a phone recorder. He did not tell any of us that he was doing this. The recording was very inconspicuous and none of us had any idea that it had been hitched up. One day he brought us into his office and asserted that he had something he wanted us to hear. He ran the recording so we could listen to it. To his surprise and ours as well we could not let him know which person it was and he did not recognize the voice at all.

He played the conversation again but this time he paid attention to the time stamp on the phone recorder. The phone call had been placed overnight when the salon was closed. He determined that the cleaning lady was making the calls and not my chums. The recording provided unquestionable evidence of what had occurred. I dont think I would’ve been able to keep a friendship with the girls if I thought they were liars and thieves. The call recording device helped the manager get to the truth and helped me keep my girlfriends.
