Virtual reality computer games that appeared in shopping centres in the early nineties were tipped to be huge and you may have seen one if you were around then. Despite the games placing you in the seat of a jet fighter pilot for example, they just didn’t take off the way they were expected to.

The technology wasn’t great and the graphics definitely not good but that would have all been forgiven if the games they made were great. If there had just been one game that became infectious then we would probably all be playing these games in our homes today.

Giving the impression of being inside a game with the help of a headset or glasses is something that a lot of game developers have been working on over the years. With 3D surround sound earphones, you could become even more immersed in the game and you could just get away from reality for a while.
