Considering how long it can take to get a character from Level 1 to Level 80, fast WoW leveling is always a major topic of conversation for World of Warcraft Players. You can bet that people will be debating topics like grinding versus questing, gear selection, and so on. But you may hear less about the important topic of Talent Builds. More specifically, it is the question of which talents you should select for your character so they can get everything done on the way up to Level 80, and be a functional and fun character to play when they do get there.

To successfully follow the path laid out for you by a power leveling guide, your character will likely need to develop their talent tree in a manner similar to that of the characters that created the guide in the first place. For example, suppose you’re trying to level a Warlock. If the creators of your guide leveled their Warlock using a build that specializes in Demonology, you’ll likely find it easiest to follow the guide if your Warlock specializes in Demonology too.

Can you deviate from the Talent Build that the guide developers used? Of course you can. They may recommend that you use a particular build, but that’s all. You might find that completing certain quests is harder when you use a different build, or that things go slightly differently than described in the guide. Some things might be easier or work out better with a different build than the one the guide developers used.

Let’s tie this all together. Choosing an effective Talent Build will definitely help your character level faster. If you’re using a leveling guide to get your character to the higher levels faster, using a Talent Build similar to the one they used to develop the guide will make it easier to follow the exact path they laid out. However, you shouldn’t feel like you have to exactly replicate your guide’s recommended build. Doing your own thing may make it a little harder (or in rare cases easier) to follow the guide, but won’t keep you from leveling your character quickly.
