"If you want to win in a casino, you better own one" (Steve Wynn)
If you have a thirst for excitement and no fear of taking a risk with your money, then one of the world’s casinos will likely be similar to a playground for you. Of course, as with any game, most of us would really like to win. In order to do that in a casino, you really should be aware of the odds that you have with certain games. Let’s take two of a casino’s most popular games casino games to play, for instance, blackjack and slots, and weigh your odds.
The simplicity of the casino slot machine games has changed dramatically since its invention. Today’s slot machines are governed by computer chips that are programmed to determine the overall payout of each machine. However, by law, the total payout of all of a casino’s machines must add up to the average payout amount that a casino advertises. This means that, if a casino boasts a payout rate of 97.66%, the total of the averaged slot losses of the day would amount to 2.44%. So what are your odds? Well, the odds are stacked highly against you. By the posted payout rate mentioned above, you can safely assume that, on average, you will lose at least 3 cents on every dollar that you put into a slot machine.
Let’s move on to blackjack. Blackjack is another game of chance but many loyal players believe that your odds are much better with this game. Why? Well, simply because there are only so many odds involved for not only you, but the casino as well. The odds vary by the number of players and can change with each hand but, overall, are still much better than the slot machine.
With the blackjack card game, you have a few different things that you can do; betting, of course, is your initial decision. The cards are dealt, one card around and then the next. You look to see what the dealer has and decide how you are going to play your hand. If the dealer shows an ace, you have the opportunity to purchase insurance for your bet. If not, you proceed by one of three methods: stand, hit, or split. When you sit down at a blackjack table, you have, on average, between a 43% – 49.5 % chance of winning overall. In reality, those odds really are not all that bad and are far better than the odds of winning on a slot machine. Besides, with blackjack, those odds change each time you are dealt a hand and every time you make a decision on your hand. So it truly is all in the cards!
