Kindle DX & Global Kindle – A Comparison

The most obvious difference between these two digital reading gadgets available for purchase at the moment is that one only works in the USA while the other works in countries around the globe. If you reside outside the USA (or if you’re an American who often visits other countries) then that makes your choice (such as it is) quite obvious; You must buy the Kindle with Global Wireless.

Besides that very important distinction, the clearest difference between the two is that of size. The Kindle DX Electronic Reading Gadget is far bigger as far it’s display and it’s memory capabilities. It is also much bigger as far as it’s cost.

While the DX is 9.7 inches, the Kindle with Global Wireless is just 6 inches. The larger display is most helpful with newspaper subscriptions (it makes it more like reading a real paper.) On the other side, the smaller size of the regular version can make it easier to carry with you wherever you go.

There’s also a big difference as far as memory size. The Kindle DX Electronic Reading Gadget can hold over 3000 books, magazines, & newspapers while the other version of this gadget can hold about 1,500 books. But really, who has that many books?! I have a very difficult time believing this huge amount of space that the DX has is necessary for most consumers.

Another difference is the auto-rotating screen that the DX has.

They both can download from a selection of approximately 350,000 books, newspapers, and magazines which can all be purchased for lower prices than their paper alternatives.

Both kindles have a built in “text to speech” program which automatically turns all of your books into audio books.

Neither of these devices have any monthly charges to worry about. The way the wireless service works is a lot like the wireless for a GPS. Once you get the gadget the wireless just works, there’s nothing else to worry about and no bills to pay.

Both devices have a very basic built in web browswer that lets you surf the web from anywhere. It should be noted that this browser is meant for text based informational websites like blogs and Wikepedia.
