Shopping For Printers For Laptops

Printers for laptops are an increasingly popular purchase for people that spend time away from the office. The traditional office environment has been shaken up and allowed people to be more mobile. In fact, the social aspect of business has almost forced this to happen. Being able to print a contract or document from various locations has become a necessity rather than a luxury.

Portable and compact printers differ in many areas. Where a portable printer may have more features, the compact printer is more easily carried in the laptop bag. They both generally come with a battery and offer the option of wired or wireless connectivity. The difference in size, print quality, batter life, and connectivity all come at a price.

The prices vary based on the size and options. Though most range between one hundred and four hundred dollars, the smaller ones tend to range higher in price. Essentially, you will pay for the convenience of compact sizes. The larger ones, while still portable cannot easily be slipped into a laptop bag to carry along. Some will have other options such as longer lasting batteries, USB recharging, or wireless connectivity.

The life of the battery is not always related to the price. Unfortunately, there is no set standard for the life in a battery for these devices. Usually, the smaller versions do not have as long a life. If battery life is extremely important, you would do well to check out the specifications prior to purchase. None of the devices were built to be on at all times. In fact, many automatically shut off after an idle period.

The print quality is often better in the larger devices. The portable printers are more akin to the typical ink jet printers. Though they are smaller than their office versions, they will still printer fairly high quality documents. The compact versions usually print only in grey scale. However, for a price, there are some on the market that have high quality printing even in the more compact sizes.

Having the wireless option allows more convenience in awkward setup situations. When there is not enough space to place the printer next to the computer, the ability to connect wirelessly is a valuable option. Often, they will also include a cord for direct connection. In these cases, you can decide whether wired or wireless best suits the circumstances.

Your preferences and needs are the defining factor. The first step in the process is to decide when you most often need a device. If you travel constantly and do not have access to in-office print stations, you may want carry a much smaller device. If your choice is to have a higher quality device that is able to handle more sheets of paper, the larger portable device may be best.

Printers for laptops come in all shapes and sizes. Their prices are determined most often by their size, rather than the print quality. The two can be combined, but your first step is to determine what you need, then begin to shop.
