What To Look For In Netbooks
When I got accepted into college, I knew I had to shop for a netbook. I knew it a netbook would suit me better instead of a laptop. Laptops are huge, heavy, and inconvenient to bring to class. Compared to laptops, refurbished netbooks are a lot smaller and easy to carry.
I did not need a quad core processor or a 17 inch screen. I didn’t even need a terabyte of storage. What I needed was a slow working device that did not have a huge capacity. My needs where simple – word processing, Wi-Fi capability, and making presentations. I also needed something to fit my regular back pack.
There are specific features that I looked for when I purchased my netbook. I had to make sure the operating system was up to date. That is why I got myself a Windows 7 netbook. Portability is important because I had to move around campus. I was deciding between a netbook and 15” laptop but I still had to go with the netbook simply because it weighed a lot less.
As for the processor, Intel Atom was enough for me since I didn’t need any high end specs. Mine had 1.60 GHz Atom which was more than enough to watch YouTube while downloading articles. One feature that I was really pertinent about is wireless capability. There are various Wi-Fi zones and device compatibility is key. Aside from Wi-Fi capability, I also wanted Bluetooth connectivity.
Being a small device, it didn’t have an optical drive however I solved it by getting myself an external drive. Finally, the package that I purchased included a 1 year subscription to Norton. Being online most of the time, I definitely needed a reliable antivirus.
If you are looking for a netbook yourself, try to get one online. You can even get refurbished netbooks that cost a lot less. But you need to be careful on refurbished netbooks for sale. So better purchase them from authorized dealers.

Has advertising been taken too far?
Advertisement is a part of life. Everywhere you go there is an advertisement of some kind whether it is on the bus, on the internet, in video games and in even in schools.
Advertisement in video games is certainly something that is not unheard of but it has seen a rise over the last few years. The first game to actually feature an “in game” advertisement was way back in 1978 and was called Adventureland. The advertisement itself was merely showing off the next game that was on the way by the maker of Adventureland itself.
Football games were one of the first big games to recieve “in game” advertisments. Now games featuring cities in which you can explore like Prototype are using in game advertisements as well as shooters like Ghost Recon. Splinter Cell even had a giant billboard advertisement that you couldn’t avoid seeing as you had to climb over it.
Schools are the one that has always caused a big debate but advertisement has been around in schools for many years. The real question to ask is are corportate companies just trying their luck in a new sector or trying to almost trick the younger people into buying their products?
The corporate world has managed to infiltrate the education system in a number of ways:
- Educational posters can actually contain adverts for candy.
- When the school lunch is served, brand name foods are sometimes given out with the name being plastered all over the food serving process.
- Some school busses actually have advertisements within them so even before and after school the children can not escape the power of big corporate companies.
- More recently and perhaps most worryingly we have begun seeing sponsored lessons taking place within schools, with subtle and not so subtle branding taking place within the lesson plans. This does not sound too different to the times of Nazi Germany in which the dictator Adolf Hitler forced people to read and write about the Nazis, does it?
There are a wide range of advertisements around the globe, ranging from Print management to branding. sign printing are now even used for advertisements when a company is hosting or attending a certain event.

Trivia Game Celebrates The Most Important Man of the Second Millenium: Johannes Gutenberg
Today, most of us take for granted the fact that we can pick up a newspaper, magazine, book or periodical at nearly any store and easily read it. Well, we’ve come a long way. Years ago, books and periodicals were completely handwritten. Imagine the time it would take an individual to create one single book, let alone mass quantities of it! Ah, yes, you would hear of the book, but you wouldn’t be able to get your hands on a copy for years…that is, unless of course you were one of the elite and extremely wealthy. Even then, you would likely still have to wait nearly a year for a copy to be produced.
So, how do you think it affected society and the world in general when someone finally invented a way to mass produce content? Well, let’s just say that one man’s contribution likely forged the beginnings of modern day publishing, thus giving our ancestors a reason to want to learn how to read and actually relishing the chance to own a piece of literary history.
The full name of Johannes Gutenberg was actually Johannes Gensfleisch zur Laden zum Gutenberg. Although his actual birth date is unknown, it is assumed that he was born sometime in the year of 1398 in Mainz, Germany. He was the son of Friele Gensfleisch zur Laden and Else Wyrich (who was his father’s second wife).
One of the pivotal figures credited with having a hand in the European Renaissance was Johannes Gutenberg. This German born printer and goldsmith changed the publishing world forever with the invention and use of two major publishing needs; moveable type and the mechanical printing press. In fact, this man and the work that he committed himself to nearly 570 years ago is, astonishingly, still being honored today! Most recently, he was honored by Time-Life Magazine in 1997 and the A&E Network in 1999.)
The printing press was invented by Gutenberg at some point during the years of 1439 – 1449, though his ideas of the press and moveable type were reportedly revealed as early as 1440. By the year 1450, the printing press was up and running and word traveled fast. Gutenberg ended up partnering with Johann Fust. The partnership ended in a courtroom and the result left Gutenberg nearly bankrupt and his age left little time to replace what had been lost.
Then, 10 years later and 3 years prior to his death, Gutenberg’s contributions were recognized by Archbishop von Nassau. This earned Gutenberg the title of Hofmann and included grain, wine, a special court outfit and a generous stipend. Finally, he had earned a portion of the recognition he so deserved.
