As a compromise, when it comes to doing all three functions, this particular Hewlett-Packard LaserJet-type machine does it all very well, especially when one considers its low price. It can scan at 1200×1200 dots per inch resolution, which will deliver extremely sharp documents when final rendering is completed.

Standard memory is also fine — especially for a multifunction printer — at 120 MB. There is no capability for memory upgrade, but that is usually the case for most multifunction units sold by this company in this particular market segment. It’s easy enough to hook the printer up to either a PC, Mac or even to a small network, as it uses a high-speed USB connection port. No other wired connectivity capability is available.

“It’s a fairly robust machine in that it has a monthly duty cycle of 30,000 impressions. The 1312 will be able to hold around 150 sheets of paper and it can handle a wide variety of media types, including envelopes, labels, transparencies and most sizes of paper. There is almost no Mac or Windows-based operating system the 1312 can’t run off of, by the way.”

Taken altogether, the HP Color LaserJet CM1312 MFP printer does it all and at a price ($350 for a fresh, refurbished unit) that’s sure to make the owner of a small office/home office business stand up and take notice. It isn’t the fastest printer on the market, but that’s not the rule this particular unit was built to take on. It is very durable and produces high-quality product, which actually is the role it’s meant to fill. You will need to have extra toner on hand.  This will allow you to keep printing when ink runs out.  You can either get your Color LaserJet CM1312 MFP cartridge from a store, or online.

Appreciating everything the HP Color LaserJet 3800 printer does happens naturally enough after only a few moments of giving this particular product from Hewlett-Packard the once over. It’s a very nice printer with laser jet mechanisms that is easily connected to a typical small or medium-sized workgroup and is also durable and reliable, to boot. Additionally, the 3800 comes at a decent price and with nice print speed capability, as well, with the HP Color LaserJet 3800 compatible toner churning out perfect page after perfect page.

Those print speeds are one of the 3800′s nicer attributes, and Hewlett-Packard has engineered this particular printer so that it doesn’t need to play second fiddle to any printer in its segment. 22 pages are available in both black-and-white and color and it takes under 13 seconds once the print job is tasked until the time that it emerges from the 3800, which is excellent for a printer of this price.

As far as durability goes, Hewlett-Packard has made sure that this particular model meets all benchmarks. It can handle over 65,000 pages per month before needing regular maintenance, which is a fairly high number for printers in the segment which the 3800 competes in. Any small or medium-sized business requiring a single network printer will be pleased with its durability. Remember; it needs print cartridges, not laser toner cartridges.

Processing capabilities in the 3800 printer are quite good, and HP has supplied a 533 MHz chip that is extremely nimble and light on its feet. It will be able to take a great many separate print tasks, all coming into the printer at the same time, separate and collate them and then deliver what is asked, when it is asked. HP is known for its network printer capabilities, and this one delivers on almost every front.

Print quality is standard for printers in this segment, at 600 dots per inch resolution. In terms of clearness and clarity, most any job required by a networked workgroup will be more than up to the task and criteria, meaning there will be a nice looking product, free of smudging or blurriness in almost every case, including jobs with graphics present within them. For best results use HP Color LaserJet 3800 bulk toner.

The printer itself can hold a total of three paper trays, with a total of 850 sheets of paper able to be held within those trays. Additionally, it can handle up to 10 envelopes, though there is no automated envelope feeder — which really isn’t a problem because the printer itself is quite easy to maneuver when it’s time to have an envelope printed out.

Hewlett-Packard memory capabilities in any of its printers is also an excellent selling point and this particular model comes with 96 MB of RAM standard. It can be upgraded, of course, to 544 MB of RAM. This should be more than enough to handle even the largest of print jobs that would come from most networked workgroups. The 3800 also is able to handle almost all Windows-based operating systems as well as several different Mac OS systems, by the way.

The sum total of the HP Color LaserJet 3800 printer reveals a machine comfortable in its own skin and quite capable of handling most needs of any workgroup it happens to be connected to. And connecting it is quite easy with its standard interface capabilities. Most any workgroup lucky enough to have this printer working on its behalf will surely count itself lucky.

One of the things that this HP printer does well is produce gorgeously clear prints with LaserJet 3800 compatible toner.  No one will be surprised that HP toner is a quality product, however, the competitive prices offered by online vendors for replacement toner should come as a pleasant revelation.
