When companies are trying to secure a big deal, they often have to spend countless hours preparing documents. You pay close attention to make sure that any picture used is the proper resolution and adds depth to your report. Now all that is left is to make copies of the final report. You do not want to take the chance with printing off copies with just any old printer. This project deserves the best quality possible.

Copiers come in a variety of shapes, sizes, costs, and abilities. How do you know whether the printer you need will give you the results you demand? Look for the name on the device. For instances, Canon is a great brand along with HP, Brother and others.

Are you looking for a communications hub or just a printer from which you can print out and copy a presentation that could earn you the $1 million account you have been working on for so long.

Make sure you read reviews and perfrom other research before you decide on the right copier for your business. Go to your local electronics store and speak with experts that can answer any questions you have. It is also good to find out which copiers use the most printer ink. Printer ink cartridges are one of the biggest expenses when it comes to owning a printer so it is important to find out which printers conserve printer ink the most. You Do Not Want To Miss Out On These Printer Tips

One of the most important pieces of equipment for a home or business is a printer. When a printer breaks down, the entire office can come crashing to a halt. To make sure that your office continues to run smoothly, you have to perform regular printer maintenance. If you remember these 4 tips, you will save yourself hours of frustration and trips to the repair shop.

1. Keep your printer clear of paper jams. A common misperception is that once the paper jam has been fixed, the printer jam as been resolved. It is easy for small parts of sheets of paper and other debris to get caught in the wheels and trays of the printer. If you continually check for this, you can prevent this from becoming a big problem down the road. Remove any covers or doors to properly check for loose items. Make sure the paper is not overloaded or outside of the paper tray. You also need to make sure that the proper paper size is installed.

2. Clean and align the print heads regularly. Signs that you need to clean your printer heads include, when your documents start to look faded, lines appear through pictures or images are not printing clearly. Refer to your user manual for the proper way to do this. Newer printer models have a self cleaning function pre-built in. You also need to check the printer’s calibration and can do this by hitting the test menu option. If you have not used a printer for several months, be sure to clean the print heads prior to use. Most printer ink cartridges will eventually dry up and can cause build up on the print heads.

3. Ensure that all components are operating smoothly by running the printer’s diagnostic function. Running these tests monthly as part of a printer maintenance routine can help prevent problems. If your printer has been moved or dropped, you will want to run those tests to make sure that the printer is still functioning properly and that the components are in balance. So to prevent wasting ink and paper, you should run this maintenance test prior to any new print job.

4. Make sure that the printer ink cartridges are properly filled and secure. Printer ink cartridges are very vital to a printer’s health and performance. Make sure that the printer ink cartridges have enough printer ink to perform a print job to avoid fading. Another thing to be mindful of is clogging or drying out of the printer heads.

Prevention is the key to printer maintenance. Printer maintenance can be overlooked when everything seems to be running fine. If left unchecked, small problems that could have been fixed can snowball into something bigger and more serious down the road. When printer drivers or software are installed there is usually a help or printer maintenance component that is installed as well. The manufacturer’s book is the best resource to keep your printer working in tip-top condition. If you still need more information, check out the manufacture’s website for a specific printer model number. Most user manuals are posted online. Remember, do not ignore your printer and you should be fine. A printer is essential to an efficient and effective business, so take good care of it.

Teaching Your Child To Use Your Printer

Today, the youth is becoming more and more computer literate and they are getting younger and younger. Eventually they will need to create documents and projects for school, which means they will need to use the printer. This can be a scary, and sometimes daunting task for a parent. A printer has a lot of moving parts and external components such as printer ink cartridges that can poses a greater chance of accidents for younger children. It is imperative to teach your child how to properly use your home printer to avoid any possible mishaps. The main thing you need to stress even before teaching them the functionality of the printer is that it is an electrical device and is plugged into a sock; therefore it comes with the same dangers as other things that are plugged in.

Here are a few tips to get your child familiar with the printer:

1. Teach your child what each of the buttons on the printer does. This will decrease your child’s curiosity and lessen the chances for wasteful printing or messes. If your child is just beginning to read, refer to the icons and symbols on the printer. Get them to repeat when each one is used
2. If you have a newer printer model with a display, scroll through the menu and show your child which icons are for adults and which are for kids.
3. If your child is old enough to load paper or change out printer ink cartridges, show them exactly how to secure the printer ink and what amount of paper to load. This would be a good time to teach them about paper jams and how they can greatly damage the printer. Most printers have arrows and other symbols to explain the proper direction and amount of paper to load or where to put the printer ink cartridges.
4. If your printer has a scanner or other additional features, be sure to teach your child what they are and when they are used.
5. Show your child where the print menu is in a text document. Explain what the “preview” feature is and how to read the page.
6. Go over each of the printing options including: print size, number of copies, which pages to print, etc. This will help cut down on excess printer ink usage.
7. Leave instructions for what your child should do in the event that there is some type of error of malfunction with the printer. Let them know that if a problem were to occur that it is not their fault as printers can be very tricky and complicated to use, especially for someone their age.

As your going over the function of the computer, you should also establish rules and limitations for printer usage. Some parameters could be to limit their usage to only when supervised or limit the amount of copies they can make. Proper instruction from the beginning will ensure your child is capable of using the printer with minimal difficulty. You should also keep in mind that your child could be learning something different at school, so you need to establish an open channel of communication. It is a good idea to ask them what they already know and how much exposure they’ve had to operating the printer. You may find out that teaching your child to use your printer is as easy as showing them how it compares to the one they already use at school, which will save you big on printer ink cartridges refills.

The Canon MX310 (Review)

For a graduation present, I received a Canon Pixma MX310 All-In-One a few years ago. I would like to share my take on the printer’s quality and features, having owned it myself for a few years now.

As is the standard for All-in-one printers, the MX310 can Print, Scan, Copy and Fax. I have used all the features rather extensively except for the fax component. I will talk about each feature individually and then discuss a few other printer considerations.

The print feature on the MX310 is excellent. The installation software was easy to comprehend and I was able to connect the printer and print a few test documents within minutes of opening the box. Printing is reasonably fast and doesn’t seem as prone to jams as other printers on the market. The ink usage is fairly high, unfortunately, and the cartridges cannot be refilled, but replacement ink is modestly priced and can be found online for as little as $22 at a reputable dealer like 4inkjets. For the tech geeks, it prints up to 600×600 dpi in monochrome at 22 pages/minute and 4800×1200 dpi in color at 17 pages/minute.

Copying is also easy. The Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) is effective and comfortably holds up to thirty pages.. Copies are very crisp and clear, as would be expected from the quality Canon brandname. Copying of photos on photo-quality paper produces products almost impossible to distinguish from professionally developed photos.

The scanner is of similar high quality. My only issue with the printer, it seems, is when it comes to using the scanner feature. I always have trouble shfiting the printer into scanning mode. Often, I have to press the ‘scan’ button several times before the machine moseys into scan mode. After the scanning is complete, the quality, however, is great.

I don’t know much about the fax. From what I’ve seen online, opinions vary. The 20-number phone number storage capacity is appreciated, but the lack of options is picked at. For more precise information about the fax’s capabilities, I frankly suggest you look elsewhere on the web for reviews.

The largest complaint I have with the printer is its awkwardly large size. The printer is gigantic. It extends over most of my desk! I can’t fit my laptop on my desk if the printer is on it. The printer also makes a lot of noise. Also, when the printer indicates it is low on ink, there are actually 30-40 pages left (from my experience). I don’t know if this in intentional on Canon’s part, but it’s not very eco-friendly.

Pros: Good quality, very efficient.

Cons: Ink glutton, can’t refill ink cartridges, large size.

Final verdict: 3/5. Even though the quality and productivity are excellent, the cost to replace the ink and the large physical size is damning. It is a quality printer, but when I buy my next printer model myself, I will be looking for a smaller, quieter and more ink-efficient model.

The Weighty Price Of Fonts

These days, as small businesses and offices continue to cut expenses wherever they can, the print and copyroom sometimes seems like it has become an unbearable expense. Some usual strategies include double-sided printing and keycodes to use the printer. Others try more drastic approaches, like trying to impose a paper free office, or giving every employee a flash drive to carry files. Here’s a much simpler solution: change your font and save up to 31% on ink costs. Wow, really??

The most popular font type these days is Arial. A study conducted by blog.printer.com, however, deduces that it’s certainly not the most economical. 10 fonts were used, printing the same text each time in a strict control. The printing habits of both private and business users were simulated, with a Canon Pixma MP210 used for home users and the Brother HL-2140 for business users.

Identical pages were printed in all 10 fonts. The documents were turned into .pdf documents and scanned by the application Apfill, which calculated the total ink coverage of each page.

To establish a winner, each font’s relative ink coverage was evaluated and compared. This reduction is ink usage translates into roughly a $20 savings per year for an average home user printing 25 pages/week versus using Arial. A business user printing around 250 pages a week would actually save as much as $80 in a year.

Keep in mind, many businesses have more than one printer, or print far more than 250 pages/week. For these businesses, the savings could be astronomical.

Now we need to now, which font is the thriftiest?? What text utilized the least ink while maintaining quality readability?

That #1 font is Century Gothic, ladies and gentleman. Verdana and Times New Roman, other popular and common fonts, placed at #5 and #3, respectively. Arial itself was ranked #6 in the list of 10 fonts tested for ink usage.

Perhaps this is a method that would work in your company or small business to lower costs. Just change the font.

Check out the rest of the blog.printer.com article on their website, where you can see numbers and rankings for all ten of the tested fonts.

Recyling Used Ink Cartridges

Glass products, cardboard, plastic and aluminum are a few things that are being recycled in this new environmentally conscious age. Although you may not find a convenient receptacle at the supermarket for them, old ink cartridges are now part of that crowd. You can now turn in your used ink or toner cartridges at a participating store or online for a cash reward or store credit. Here’s how to do it:

First, take out the used-up ink or toner cartridge. Observe the instructions that came with the printer for the proper removal method.

Then, you have to find a company or institution participating in an ink cartridge donation or buyback program. You can choose the one most spatially convenient to you or just go online. They vary in value depending on where you go and what you have, but generally you can expect up to $4 for an ink cartridge and $7 for a toner cartridge.  Some people like to save them up and mail them all at once to save on shipping. This might be a good idea if you work in an office building or large conglomerate. Some people will only have one ink cartridge, and therefore need to get it refilled or replaced immediately.

Refilling and reselling is an option, and many office superstores will do just that. You might want to take advantage of the lower cost. Remember, since the cartridge must be opened up to be refilled, the risk of an error of some kind of cartridge failure goes up. Using a re-filled cartridge may also void the warranty on some printers, so read carefully ahead of time if you decide to re use your old cartridge.

Finally, you need to replace the cartridge. If you alreday have a refill, you can move right on into replacing it. If you want to buy a new cartridge entirely, I would suggest 4inkjets.com. They generally have reasonable prices for ink cartridges.

Recyling used ink cartridges, as you can see, is a snap! Being green-friendly and cost-efficient at the same time are now a possibility!

Keep Printing Costs Low With These Tips

Do you wish you could lower expenses for your small business in the copyroom? This list of cost-saving know-how may be able to help out with that problem.

1. Make sure everyone in the company knows how to use all the different printing settings and features. Ensure they are familiar with how to change font sizes and margins, make double-sided documents and copies, and how to just print a selection or a certain page instead of a full document. When color isn’t necessary for the document’s meaning, encourage and demonstrate use of the ‘print color in black and white’ feature found in the print settings. Color ink is more expensive than black ink.

2. Make sure everyone in the office knows how to use the ‘print preview’ command to ensure there are no errors in the document such as spacing or margins that can be easily fixed without wasting a paper copy.

3. Consider investing in a laser printer instead of an inkjet printer. The laserjet is more cost-effective, printing at 1-3 cents per page, whereas the inkjet can cost 4-12 cents per page. If your company does a lot of printing or copy each day, the savings will add up quickly, even given the higher purchasing cost for a laserjet.

4. Remember and remind your officemates to look for a printer-friendly option on a web page. This often brings the browser to a copy of the page with less pictures so ink use is lower.

5. If your office is using an inkjet printer, you can take advantage of ink refill kits or get cheap ink cartridges on the web from retailers like 4inkjets.

6. Instead of printing a copy of a doument, encourage your office to send electronic copies via email. Instead of printing a hard copy, use a flash drive to store that rough draft until it’s finalized.

Using these tips in your office will probably see slow results at first, but if everyone works together, the cost savings and overall green effect will have a very positive impact.

I like 4inkjets.com. They always have good deals on cheap ink cartridges.

B&W>Color For Saving Money

Every day we print off pages in with color ink without regard for the results. Every day, we throw money out the door by using color ink that should have been black and white. Every day, we could reduce expenses for our company or in our home by using black and white printing.

Generally, printers will have a setting that can be enabled in the print settings. When it’s time to print, check your print options for something indicating ‘advanced properties’. Under this tab, look for an option called ‘monochrome’, ‘economode’ or ‘grayscale’. This allows the printer to operate as if your color images were actually B&W images and use black ink to print them out instead of color ink. This is ideal for printing on instructions, directions or recipes from the internet, because color is not required for those kinds of resources to be used.

Also remember, when you have a web document, sometimes it looks like it’s in monochrome already, but it’s actually a dark blue, green or purple. Setting the color images to print in monochrome is still a good idea to play it safe.

This saves the color ink for the color ink printing that really needs color and ensures that the next time you have to replace an ink cartridge, it’s a B&W ink cartridge instead of a Color one. This cost savings can be significant. For example, on 4inkjet.com, the replacement ink cartridge for my Canon Pixma MX310 will be $18.99 for the B&W cartridge and $24.99 for the Color cartridge, an immediate $6 savings. If I do a lot of printing, the cost of replacing B&W cartridges over the year instead of color cartridges could be significant.

For a professional laserjet printer, the expense saving may rise even more. If you’re buying replacement laser loner for the Xerox Phaser 8860, for example, the laser toner replacement will cost 144$.99 on 4inkjets.com, while replacing the three color components will sum up to $164.97, an almost $20 savings.

If you ensure that everyone in your workplace can pick the B&W options when printing, the ink costs will go down quickly.

I like 4inkjets.com for all my cheap ink cartridges needs.

There is a Variety of Printer Ink Types Out There

Different formulas and chemicals are used to make printer ink. The most widely available types of printer ink are made using either pigments or dye. There are significant differences between the two. When it comes down to it, both types work very well, and you can buy them from a variety of sources.

Dye ink cartridges can often provide exceptionally good print quality and sharp images. They can also last longer without drying up, which means less worry for you. The only issue with dye ink cartridges is that they take longer to dry after they hit the paper. This often leads to smudges and smears. If you don’t let the paper dry, it’s possible that you could get some ink on your clothes, which can be very hard to get out.

Pigment ink cartridges have an absorbent quality that allows the ink to dry as soon as it hits the paper. You don’t have to worry about blurry print jobs or smudges. This type of ink tends to provide high quality printing, and it is often used for printers with high printing speeds due to its light weight. Ink cartridges that use pigment based ink don’t fade as much, allowing prints to look great months after they’ve been printed. Another advantage to pigment based ink, when compared to dye based ink cartridges, is that they are less toxic because they contain fewer chemicals.

Many manufacturers also offer refurbished ink cartridges. You can purchase dye-based or pigment-based refurbished ink cartridges at a lower price because they have been recycled. Many people think that refurbished ink cartridges simply don’t print as well as new cartridges, but that is often untrue. Refurbished cartridges not only offer quality printing, they are also better for the environment. One advantage of buying refurbished cartridges is that you can help the environment by lowering the level of plastic waste that is thrown into landfills. Next time your ready to go buy some new ink, think about the possibility of buying refurbished ink cartridges instead.

The printer manufacturers are still trying to create ink that doesn’t fade, prints perfect pictures, and dries immediately. Thy type of ink you use can alter the final look of your projects after you’ve printed them. When printing, you’ll want to have vibrant and clear graphics, as well as text. You should read a few reviews about ink manufacturers you are considering to insure that you get the best ink. Some manufacturers charge more than others for the same size and type of printer cartridge. There are a lot of ink manufacturers, and taking your time to compare prices before you buy will save you money. Keep your eyes open for special offers and bulk packages. You will save money when you buy ink cartridges in bulk because bulk packages are often cheaper. Remember to read tips on how you can conserve ink so that you do not have to replace your ink cartridges on a regular basis.

The Affordable HP Color LaserJet 2550L Printer

The HP Color LaserJet 2550L printer began production in 2004. It offered a low cost laser printer using 2550L replacement toners that had a high output. HP has discontinued the production of this machine and it is no longer available for purchase new.

The HP Color LaserJet 2550L printer is a two-tone gray printer. It is lightweight and easy to move. It owes its compact size to the fact that the four-HP Color LaserJet printer toner cartridge are arranged in a space saving carousel.

This printer helped to make color laser printers available to home users and small businesses. When sold new from HP, it was less expensive than most other laser printers at the time. To cut costs, the printer was designed so that adjustments were made from the computer and not an LCD screen on the printer itself.

Many consumers were not happy with this printer on a couple of counts, however. The printer does not come equipped with a paper tray unless purchased separately. In addition, the consumables for the machine can become expensive very quickly.

Without the optional paper tray, paper must be fed through a slot located behind a front panel on the machine. This panel must be kept open to keep paper loaded. Some purchasers felt that this exposed the inner workings of the printer to too much dust. In addition, consumers often find it difficult to locate the optional paper tray.

The Laser Jet 2550l uses a separate drum that needs to be replaced regularly. With this machine, it is not uncommon to have to replace the drum every five to six months. Cost of the replacement drum is about one third of the cost of the printer when new.

Consumers find that toner cartridges must often be replaced before empty. The printer employs a technique that uses print count to determine when a toner cartridge needs to be replaced. Thus, even when using the printer in the black print setting, the counter for the color cartridges counts down with every print made. Once the counter reaches the zero mark, the toner cartridge must be replaced for the printer to work. This has consumers replacing toner cartridges that may be over half full.

Prints on this machine also seem to be mediocre. Additionally, the speed seems very slow by the standards of today. The fastest speed, for black letter sized prints is 12.1 ppm. Color prints are only done a t 3.1 ppm. In addition, color often needs adjustment to get true color for the pictures. The machine does shine at black prints. It consistently produces clean and crisp text.

The HP Color LaserJet 2550L set a standard that brought the prices of both black and color laser printers into the range of ink jet printers so that they could be affordable for many home computer users. While consumers may find many of these used machines being offered at low prices they should be warned that the cost of consumables and the fact that they must be replaced even when not empty makes this a less than desirable printer. It is also important to always have HP Color LaserJet printer toner cartridge on hand. Replacement toner is the ink that the printer uses to print your documents. You can purchase HP Color LaserJet 2550L compatible toner online or in stores.
