Things You Should Know Before You Buy Printer Supplies

There are a lot of things going on when an office printer is working. The first time you pick one up, the sheer number of details and the ensuing confusion might catch you off guard. Paper, ink or toner, and computer software all affect the efficiency of the printer and the longevity of the product.

Occasionally, if you work with one printer for a while, you can begin to find that is “likes” some kinds of paper and doesn’t “like” others. While one type of paper might smudge a lot, another type might cause frequent paper jams. Generally, differences between paper is due to the simple fact that manufacturers tend to make specific paper for specific printers. When you are buying paper for your printer, it is probably a good idea to look at its manual to see what the company says is the best for it. Lower costing inkjet printers don’t perform well on heavy cardstock, for instance, so if you need to print flyers or postcards, find a cardstock that is the right weight for your printer.

Keep in mind that even when you just want regular paper, you need to double check what type of printer the paper is meant for. You should make sure it’s meant for an inkjet printer. Likewise, use paper for your laser printer that is labeled “laser” or “copy” paper. Some inkjet printers even use their own individual type of ink, which may react negatively to the wrong kind of paper. Another thing is that inkjet printer paper has a tendency to be both less absorbent and smoother, which often results in a crisper image.

Specialized photo printer is usually offered by the manufacturer of a printer, and in this case, you generally should buy it from them. Many might assume that products like this tend to cost more without actually being any better, but in this particular situation, that tends to be a false assumption. Printers that print quality photos are usually made with a certain kind of paper in mind to achieve the best result for the customer. Sometimes it’s worth it to pay a little more for quality.

It can be quite a task to buy the right ink. Once you have discovered the best set-up for your printer, it’s easy to continue it; but at the beginning, it can be a little intimidating. Purchasing remanufactured cartridges to use in your printer just isn’t as bad as it used to be. Companies that refilled cartridges weren’t regulated in the past, so they tended to cause problems and sometimes even damage to printers. It frightened people and convinced them that they shouldn’t use remanufactured cartridges. However, since companies like these are now expected to maintain certain higher standards, they will occasionally offer lifetime warranties with their products. If your printer ends up damaged, and it can be shown that it was caused by their cartridges, they’ll even replace the printer for you. There’s simply not a good reason why you can’t use these cartridges. Ink is the most bought office supply other than paper, so reusing cartridges makes a lot of financial and environmental sense.

Paying attention to the printer’s owner’s manual is one of the best ways to determine exactly what printer supplies you need for your printer. From there, it is up to you to decide what is best for your situation.
