As laptop computers enter the mainstream in terms of price, more and more people are beginning to switch from desktops to this portable device. However, you may have observed that your laptop is relatively slower than desktop counterparts. Why? What should we do to speed up laptop computers? Why is your laptop slower than your desktop? Practical knowledge teaches us that laptops and pc’s are the same. The truth, however, is that, while they run similar programs and they perform similar operations, they are 2 different devices in terms of design and construction.

Laptop computers are slower than its pc counterpart even if they are made using the same technology. This is because laptops have to accept few compromises to keep its size as well as its battery life. {Laptops have slower processor speed than desktops to keep its performance at par}. {RAM is also a big issue since larger memory needs more power to run}. There are several things that you need to understand before you think of going back to your desktop. Nonetheless, there are basic steps you can do to maximize the speed of your laptop and keep it in a considerable speed.

Learn to declutter. Over time things pile up in your computer which contribute to the slow speed of your laptop. {It can be in the form of unused files, unnecessary files, useless programs, and temporary internet files you didn’t realize to be in your laptop}.

{To remove unimportant documents, mp3, photos, and videos, go to the folders where they are located, choose files you wish to remove, and delete these files}. To completely erase the traces of these files from your hard disk, empty your recycle bin. Keep in mind though, that you cannot retrieve files that are emptied from the recyble bin.

Useless program, or those programs you have no use of, should be uninstalled properly. {Go to the Control Panel and click Add/Remove programs. Select the programs you no longer need, then uninstall them to free up some space}.

Temporary internet files are little files that are saved in your computer from different the webpages you have visited. Each temporary internet file is very small, but when combined, they take up a considerable amount of hard disk. {Remove these files by going to the “Clear Browsing History” in the Tools Tab of your browser}. {Remove cookies, history, form data, and temporary internet files}.

Other ways to speed up laptop is regular disk clean up, defragmentation, cleaning virus and spyware. During operation, keep your computer use to a bare minimum. While most laptops handle several operations pretty well, multiple files that are opened at the same time take up a lot of computer speed that can eventually slow your laptop down.
