The Completely Featured Hewlett Packard LaserJet 1018 Printer

The fully featured HP LaserJet 1018 printer using HP 1018 replacement toner demonstrates that Hewlett-Packard has lost none of its touch when it comes to building a nice black and white laser printer for a small office or home office environment. The 1018 does this job particularly well, as do most HP printers in this market segment. It’s also able to produce extremely nice looking documents and letters with its high-quality print capability.

This printer is known in the industry as being the smallest laser printer around and the fact that it lists for about $150 before any discounts is exceptional. That low price is an impressive one looking at the overall size and dimensions of the 1018, because it comes in at just 11 pounds and will fit nicely on any desktop, which is where it seems destined to see the most use.

Print speed is acceptable at about 12 pages per minute using HP LaserJet printer toner cartridges, which is okay as far as printers go, and one will have to keep in mind that one is getting laser-quality printing for what is an admittedly low price. Probably, some of this is due to the fact that the printer is concentrating so hard on producing a quality print job with every tasking given to it, using its 234 MHz processor to its fullest.

In total, taking the 1018 from its box and then getting it up and running is a fairly easy task. It features “plug and play” capabilities, meaning that after it’s plugged in the computer automatically installs its software and then runs an installation wizard that a user will instantly be familiar with. There’s no USB cable included, so keep that in mind before running its USB port to the computer.

Generally speaking, the 1018 handles just about any sort of text printing job that can be thought of and everything will look good right down to some of the smaller fonts, such as four point, one will be considering using in business applications. Even graphics come out looking fine enough for general internal business use using LaserJet 1018 replacement toners, which this printer is designed to do quite well.

The HP 1018 has also been designed to work with most Windows-based operating systems, including the 32-Bit and 64-Bit versions of Vista. It can also hold up to 150 sheets of paper in its included auto load input tray as well as an additional 10 sheets of paper in a priority slot. It also prints out on most sizes and kinds of paper as well as labels and envelopes along with custom-sized media stock.

Print resolution is a standard 600 dpi and the first page will generally emerge about 10 seconds after the print job is sent to the printer by the computer. With the inclusion of Hewlett-Packard’s proprietary image enhancement technology tool, effective print resolution is double that, at 1200 dpi. It has a monthly duty cycle of 3000 single-sided pages per month before needing minor maintenance.

The highly capable HP LaserJet 1018 printer has been delivered by Hewlett-Packard to be a printer that will be popular for quite a while. List price for the 1018 comes in at about $250, but there have been refurbished models going for about $110 lately.
