Why Your Druid Needs the PvP Bible
PvP combat is in your Druid’s future, even if you’ve avoided it so far. Wrath of the Lich King has brought a new emphasis to World of Warcraft’s World PvP. The shape of things to come is visible in the new real time PvP battle zone called Lake Wintergrasp, where the emphasis is on real-time World PvP.
In this new zone, you go at it on the live server to gain points you can use to buy a wide variety of special items, including the new Heirloom items that any of the player’s characters in that account from level 1 to 80 and beyond can use.
With Lake Wintergrasp’s high popularity, and the increasing amount of PvP combat in other popular games, there will surely be even more World PvP in the future. So let’s talk about Druids and PvP:
Fighting PvP as a Druid offers many challenges and thrills, along with a lot of complexity. Druids are extremely tough to kill, and are unaffected by many of the crowd control techniques used by their opponents. With their ability to heal, fight like a Warrior and even change forms, they can do it all in PvP. Unfortunately for you, that very versatility makes Druids prime targets, and makes Druid PvP play very challenging.
Because Druids can do so many different things, they have a different optimal strategy for fighting every opposing class. Believe it or not, the best Druid PvP players apply 9 different strategies to one on one combat, one for each class of opponent. And of course, you also need to be able to adapt your Druid’s combat tactics to account for the strengths and weaknesses of your allies. It’s a lot to learn, but there are major advantages to doing so.
Many people believe that Druids have the best talents for 2v2 arena play. Some would argue that Rogues are better, but the Druid adds more depth and variety to 2-person teams. A well thought-out Druid with solid strategy and tactics can own its opponents in duels, and lead a high-end 2v2 arena team. These same characteristics make Druids welcome additions to most 3v3 or 5v5 teams.
That’s the good thing about play a Druid. But they do have weaknesses too. If you’re going to succeed in PvP against the best players, you’ll need to understand your character’s weaknesses and be able to compensate for them. Choosing the right gear goes far toward minimizing those weakenesses, once you understand how to choose it. As always, you can learn all this on your own, if you’re willing to make a major investment of time.
Or you can invest in a PvP guide that will show you what you need to know to compete with the top Player versus Player competitors.
